How You Can Help
The method of Well Worth Reading can be successful in its aim of providing motivating reading matter for all pupils, but especially for those 'trailing readers' for whom this method was devised. It will rely upon there being a good number of interesting stories in it. At the moment the number of 'books' in this scheme is very small. What we need is for schools to contribute stories with each page accompanied by a picture. The pictures must be copyright free as well as the text.
The pictures can be; digital photos, pupils artwork scanned, or even submitted on paper. The text or the complete document should be submitted as Textease or MS Word documents. Each page should be a separate document. Each page should have between sixty and 120 words. It is a good plan to allow pupils the chance to see what is already on the site, so they can get an idea of the format.
We need texts similar to those already collected or created. Pupils in the upper primary or secondaries can be asked to help. It can be purpose for a 'block' of writing. The motivation is that their work will appear on this site.
The subject matter can be anything pupils want to write about. Of particular interest are stories about local history, legends, festivals, events and industries. There seems to be a lack of source materials about matters specific to Scottish Borders. I hope that this site will eventually house a fair number of stories about local matters past and present.
I hope that your school will be able to make a contribution to the Well Worth Reading materials. Please let me know when you embark upon creating story for this site. I am prepared to work with staff and pupils, if a school feels it needs help getting started.
Please get in touch by email if you feel you can help. Looking forward to hearing from you.
