The Well Worth Reading Method
The procedure for using Well Worth Reading materials
- Pupil reads the text clicking on every word in the text
- Pupil reads the text clicking on just the words he needs help with. It might be an idea if he moves the mouse pointer over the words as he reads so he can easily click on a word he is unsure of.
- Pupil reads the text, clicking on every word.
- Pupil prints out the text and then reads it to the "listening person".
- The Listening person agrees that the text has been read well and signs the work or advises the pupils to go back to 2, underlining problem words
- Pupil files the work in a folder
If a pupil has to be sent back to the text on-screen more than twice, there is probably a need to; use simpler materials; use only part of the text in one session.
Such an approach - if the pupil is motivated to continue with it, should prove to help boost the reading levels of trailing readers in the same way as The Electronic Library
